Kremlin envoy Kirill Dmitriev said that peace in Ukraine is approaching because of dialogue between the Russian and American presidents.
US-Russia diplomacy will prevent World War 3
According to Russia Today on September 7, Kirill Dmitriev – presidential assistant for international economic affairs, head of the Russian Direct Investment Fund – declared that Russian President Vladimir Putin and his US counterpart Donald Trump are bringing the conflict in Ukraine to a close.
In a post on social network X, Mr. Dmitriev posted a photo of the two Russian and US leaders, and another photo of the three leaders of the Soviet Union, the US, and the UK, Josef Stalin, Franklin D. Roosevelt and Winston Churchill at the Yalta Conference in 1945 – an event that laid the foundation for the world order after World War II.
“Stalin, Roosevelt and Churchill won World War II. Mr. Putin and Mr. Trump will prevent World War III,” Mr. Dmitriev wrote.
The Kremlin envoy also hit back at former US Ambassador to Russia Michael McFaul, who said Moscow was not serious about negotiations to end the conflict, and called on the West to provide more weapons to Ukraine.
“Absolutely wrong. Peace is coming thanks to the Trump-Putin dialogue,” Dmitriev said, claiming that former US President Joe Biden’s approach and efforts to isolate and sanction Russia have failed.
According to him, “dialogue, respect, mutual understanding, solving problems to find lasting solutions is the right path.”
After a long hiatus in high-level dialogue between the US and Russia, President Putin and President Trump had many phone calls and met in person in Alaska in mid-August.
Although the Alaska summit did not lead to a ceasefire in the Russia-Ukraine conflict, both sides said the meeting was “very productive.”
On August 5, Putin expressed cautious optimism about the prospects of ending the conflict. He said he “saw the light at the end of the tunnel,” but also warned that without a diplomatic solution, “we will have to achieve all our goals by force.”
