COWETA COUNTY, GEORGIA – A new chapter has begun for high school graduate and New York Yankees rookie Dax Kilby, who was selected 39th overall in the first round of the 2025 MLB Draft.
His name has been called by one of the most legendary teams in baseball history, and Kilby represents not only his own dream, but also the proud tradition of Coweta County, which has had a player selected in every MLB Draft for the past three years.
Kilby is no stranger to Georgia sports fans. A Class 5A state champion and recently named the 2024–25 ITG-Next Georgia Male Athlete of the Year, the Newnan High student has conquered the state with his talent – and his humility.
Two years after Trinity Christian’s Tai Peete was selected 30th overall by the Seattle Mariners in 2023, Kilby has now signed in the first round – proving that Coweta is not just a breeding ground for great players, but also a hotbed for future MLB talent.
Fans here also remember Coweta alumnus Bryce Alewine, who was selected in the 18th round by the Detroit Tigers last year – and is now developing in the minor league system.
The photo of Dax Kilby smiling brightly on graduation day, holding a gold medal high, has now become a viral symbol on social media:
“From the classroom to the Yankees – only the belief remains the same.”
From the hot days on the high school football field in Georgia, Kilby is now preparing to wear the most famous pinstripes in MLB. His tenacity, grit and all-around game promise to shine again – this time, on one of the biggest stages in the world: Yankee Stadium.
