Defying Instincts with a Gentle Paw: When Squirrels Approach the Cat with Unwavering Confidence
Where many of their peers would have let their hunting instincts express themselves, a cat filmed by its owner while dealing with young squirrels acted with great gentleness and affection towards them. The scene is particularly touching and made many Internet users react on TikTok, where it went viral in a very short time.
As a general rule, cats are not squirrels ‘ best friends . Our feline friends are, in fact, among the natural predators of these adorable rodents, which we can however protect in various ways. For example, a bell hung on our kittens’ collars helps alert sciurids of their arrival and thus gives them time to get to safety.
On the other hand, with the cat in question here, there is no need for a bell or any other preventive measure. Protagonist of a viral video on TikTok and relayed by Parade Pets , he has no intention of attacking squirrels.
In the 53-second sequence, we can actually see the magnificent Maine Coon / Ragdoll cross cat calmly lying on the grass in the garden of the family home while 3 young red squirrels approach him.
The latter come towards him with complete confidence, while he could easily pounce on them. They are probably much too young to realize it and are only thinking about getting to know this creature.
The cat happily lets them observe it very closely and even touch it, without making the slightest hostile movement towards them.
