This is the heartbreaking and agonizing moment a buffalo mother stood under the tree where a leopard had lifted her calf, hoping for a miracle that would allow her to retrieve her 𝘤𝘩𝘪𝘭𝘥!
Onlookers saw a leopard that had recently ᴋɪʟʟed soᴍᴇᴛʜing. However, this ᴋɪʟʟ was peculiar! Rarely do people hear about a leopard butchering a buffalo. Even though this was a juvenile buffalo, the leopard’s ability to avoid the herd – which is known to save their loved ones – was a very unusual sighting in and of itself.
But the mother of the buffalo calf persisted after the leopard dragged the body across the road. She spent the majority of the day waiting for a miracle as she waited by the tree.
Yves Strybos who witnessed all the incident said that: As they got ᴄʟᴏsᴇr to the sighting, the female buffalo in distress and a few hyenas caught their attention. He initially assumed that she was ʜᴜʀᴛ and that hyenas were after her. They came to a standstill, and he looked up to see the enormous Gomondwane male leopard carrying the freshly slaughtered buffalo calf.
The leopard retained a tight grip on the corpse to prevent it from falling out of the tree as the mother buffalo circled the tree again. The mother buffalo wished she could have her 𝘤𝘩𝘪𝘭𝘥 back. Subsequently, to avoid the female buffalo, the leopard hopped out of the tree for a while and e later came back to finish off his ᴋɪʟʟ in solitude.
