There may be 10 years between them, but siblings Jonah Hill and Beanie Feldstein were incredibly close growing up — and they still have a loving, supportive relationship in Hollywood.

“He’s my best friend,” she told The Cut of Hill (born Jonah Hill Feldstein) in 2022. “We are very close. … He’s like one of the most important people in my whole life, and being his sister is like my greatest joy.”

But she doesn’t view him as a celebrity. “It’s just so not how I think of him — we shared a bathroom for so many years, you know what I mean?” Feldstein told the outlet. Hill feels the same and has shared his pride for his little sister many times over the years.

“I’m obviously proud as her older brother, but what I saw her do tonight surpassed sibling hood or pride,” he captioned a childhood photo of Feldstein after opening night of Funny Girl in 2022. “Her talent caused me to cheer from the depths of my heart. I’m floored. I love you @beaniefeldstein and I’m in awe of you and the talent you possess.”

Sadly, the siblings lost their older brother, talent manager Jordan Feldstein, in 2017 after he died unexpectedly at the age of 40. Feldstein told The Cut that she and Hill have a “very, very deep connection,” as a result of their shared loss. While in his 2022 documentary, Stutz, Hill talked of the pain he feels over his older brother’s death. “I still feel that pain every day,” he says in Stutz, per Decider. “I still miss my brother.”

They grew up in Hollywood

Hill and Feldstein grew up in true Los Angeles style. Their mother, Sharon Feldstein, was a costume designer and stylist, and their father, Richard Feldstein, is a business manager who has worked with the likes of Adam Levine and Paul Rudd.

All three Feldstein kids were born in L.A. Hill, the family’s middle child, was born on Dec. 20, 1983, and Feldstein was born on June 24, 1993. Their older brother, Jordan Feldstein, was born in 1977 and died in December 2017.

They’re beloved for their comedy skills

Hill made a name for himself in Judd Apatow-produced movies like Superbad and Knocked Up, but he has since starred in more dramatic roles in films like The Wolf of Wall Street and Moneyball.

He’s still appearing in major comedies, like Don’t Look Up (2021) and the 2023 romantic comedy You People, but he has also branched into directing with the 2018 film Mid90s, which he also wrote, and the 2022 documentary Stutz. He also directed and co-wrote upcoming black comedy, Outcome, which stars Keanu Reeves, Cameron Diaz and Matt Bomer.

Feldstein grew up doing theater, and in 2017 she made her Broadway debut in Hello, Dolly! with Bette Midler, while her first major film roles were in comedies.

For Greta Gerwig’s comedy drama Lady Bird (2017), Feldstein and the cast were nominated for a Screen Actors Guild Award for outstanding performance by a cast in a motion picture. In 2019, she was nominated for a Golden Globe for best actress in a motion picture comedy or musical for her role in Olivia Wilde’s coming-of-age comedy, Booksmart.

They’re supportive of each other

After Feldstein appeared in Booksmart, viewers started to take notice of her powerhouse talent — and Hill, who was already an Oscar-nominated actor, was ready to support her. He even wore a jacket embroidered with “Beanie’s Brother” to the premiere in May 2019.

On Instagram, he captioned a photo of the two, “#beaniesbrother so proud of @beaniefeldstein she was always a genius and a movie star to me, now she’s one for the whole world. Congrats to everyone on #booksmart and most of all the Queen Bean.”

In a WSJ. Magazine story about Feldstein’s star turn in Booksmart, Hill called her his hero. “People think I’m being over the top. I’m deadass serious,” Hill said. “The things I struggle with, she had knocked down when she was 14.”

He added of the recognition his sister was receiving, “I would worry about anyone else about to go through what she’s about to go through in the world, except for her.”

Meanwhile, Feldstein considers herself lucky to have Hill for a brother. In a 2021 Instagram post celebrating his birthday, she wrote, “happy birthday @jonahhill !! i’m the luckiest little sister in the world !!”

They grew closer over the loss of their brother

Their older brother, Jordan Feldstein, unexpectedly died of a pulmonary embolism on Dec. 22, 2017. Jordan was 40 years old. He was CEO and founder of Career Artist Management (CAM) and managedMaroon 5.

Feldstein told The Cut that grief brought her and Hill closer together. “We lost our brother, so we have a very, very deep connection,” she said.

She also wrote about her grief in InStyle a year after Jordan died.

“He was a remarkably generous, intelligent, loving person. He was an incredible father, beloved by his boys,” Feldstein said. “He was a deeply devoted son. He was a brilliant creative mind. And he was my biggest brother. He gave me so many things, including my name.”

In 2020, Feldstein posted a photo with Hill and Jordan’s sons, Joshua and Charlie. “Endlessly proud of this bar mitzvah boy,” she wrote of her nephew Joshua. “Hugging my three favorite guys after 7 months of not being able to was heaven.”

On what would have been his 46th birthday in December 2023, Feldstein posted a photograph of herself and Jordan when they were younger, writing, in part, alongside it, “happy birthday, jord. i love you so much. my biggest brother, my protector. when he would come home from college, i was only a toddler, and i would slip Candyland under his door and wait outside for him and Dana to get up and play it with me.”

Meanwhile, Maroon 5 also paid tribute to Jordan with the music video for their 2019 track “Memories,” adding the message “For Jordi” at the end.

They have a superstar mom

Hill and Feldstein’s mom, Hollywood stylist and costume designer Sharon Lyn Feldstein, isn’t shy in front of the camera, using her platform to speak out on important issues. In 2020, Sharon appeared in a voting PSA with other moms of celebrities, including Alicia Keys’ mom Terria Joseph and Zendaya’s mom Claire Stoermer Coleman.

“Don’t look at me like that. I know I’m not your mother,” Sharon said in the video as she pointed to a photo of her son. “But I’m his mother. He’s voting.”

Feldstein has said that her mom’s eye for fashion inspired her own choices.

“What I love about my mom’s style is that she has never put any rules on herself,” she told PEOPLE in 2020. “She’s always just worn whatever she wants, and then it ends up being like the biggest trend the next year because everyone’s like, she’s such a trendsetter.”

In fact, Sharon was responsible for her oldest son’s relationship with Maroon 5. She and Patsy Noah, frontman Levine’s mother, became good friends in 1973. “Our kids grew up together, almost like brothers and sisters,” Noah told PEOPLE in 2018.

Sharon and Noah also co-founded the nonprofit YourMomCares, a group of celebrities’ and influencers’ mothers who bring attention to mental health issues affecting underserved and impoverished children.

“Our mission is to raise awareness for kids who don’t have a voice,” Noah told PEOPLE.

He has a tattoo celebrating his sister

After Feldstein made her Broadway debut in Hello, Dolly! in 2017, (as well as starring in Lady Bird the same year and delighting the world with her 2018 awards season red carpet style), Hill celebrated her milestone with a tattoo in her honor.

Feldstein shared the image of his new ink on Instagram in March 2018, which reads “Hello, Beanie!,” and wrote, “Somebody wants to put on his Sunday clothes!!! @jonahhill — this is NEXT LEVEL. Love you!”

He missed her wedding — for good reason

In March 2023, Hill and his girlfriend Olivia Millar were confirmed to be expecting their first baby. The actor had become increasingly private, having deleted his Instagram account in August 2022 after sharing in an open letter, published by Deadline the same month, that he would no longer be promoting his movies, or taking part in press tours and public events after having “spent nearly 20 years experiencing anxiety attacks, which are exacerbated by media appearances and public facing events.”

Feldstein married her longtime love Bonnie Chance Roberts on May 20, 2023, in a summer camp-themed ceremony in upstate New York. While the wedding was attended by family, friends and a host of celebrity guests, including Ben Platt, Sarah Paulson, Holland Taylor, Levine and his wife Behati Prinsloo and Kaitlyn Dever, Hill was missing from photos in the couple’s Vogue profile.

The day after Vogue published the feature, PEOPLE confirmed that Hill and Millar had recently welcomed their first baby, explaining his notable absence from his sister’s nuptials.
